Hello, I'm Mrs. Scarlett Betters, Professor of Psychology 101 and 102 and the Behavior Tech program. Welcome to AWest!

A little bit about me....My name is Scarlett Betters. I am from Southeast Louisiana, 45 minutes South of New Orleans (the Lafourche Bayou area). I've lived in Denver for the last 12 years (so, I've maybe earned "native" status, I think ;-)). I love hiking, biking, movies, TV and traveling as much as possible (the pic above is on the Great Wall of China and below is hiking with my dog and husband in the mountains). My dog is a 16 year old Yorkie named Dexter who is an only child and my husband is a teacher in Adams 12. I have loved my work with children and young adults for the last 14 years providing direct mental health services and look forward to continuing my work with teens through teaching college courses at AWest to help prepare the next generation of mental health professionals.
I received my Master's Degree in Social Work from Tulane University and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I also am a Certified Animal Assisted Therapist and EMDR Therapist.
My work experience includes many years of work in the public and non-profit sectors including hospitals and community mental health (inpatient and outpatient) as a Psychotherapist. I worked in Douglas County Public Schools in Parker, CO before moving over to Jeffco as a School Social Worker. Then, I decided to be an Instructor teaching students who have a desire to be the mental health professionals of the future, Psychology 101 and 102 for concurrent enrollment through Red Rocks Community College.
