Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) is a national–level Spanish honor society, established by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), recognizes students for their outstanding scholarship in the study of Spanish language and encourages members to participate in Spanish language, literary and cultural activities beyond the classroom.  Members who have completed the requirements will be able to wear the red and yellow cord of SHH at graduation and receive honors and recognition for their achievements in Spanish language and culture.

New members must be in grades 10-12 and maintain a 3.5 GPA in Spanish classes and 3.0 overall GPA. Students commit to continue taking Spanish classes throughout high school through the highest level possible (Spanish 5 and/or AP Spanish Language and Culture) and to earning at least 20 hours of service credit throughout the year. Selection is also based on character, leadership, seriousness of purpose, cooperation, honesty, service, and commitment to others.   There is a $15 fee per year, which covers yearly costs to the AATSP national organization.

Applications are available at the beginning of the fall semester, and the new member induction ceremony is held in September.

SHH also sponsors “Spanish Club,” which is a conversation club for students of all levels of Spanish study.  All A-West students are welcome to participate in Spanish Club.
