My teaching interests and philosophy:

My interests are in translating course curriculum into lessons that motivate and engage students. I incorporate research-based techniques and I am especially interested in brain-based research and how mathematics is learned and assimilated by the brain.

I believe in students taking responsibility for their learning and that the best way to learn mathematics is to actively engage in thinking through a problem to a solution. I incorporate many investigative tasks and primarily follow an inquiry-based style of learning. This means I typically start with a big messy problem and let students use what they already know to engage in and try to solve the problem. We then discuss their solutions and use these to build additional knowledge and insights.
